Last year we published several of the most common air conditioning problems Ravenna faces, but now we’re back with some common air conditioner problems that you can help troubleshoot.
Your air conditioner is on but not releasing cool air.
If your A/C system is running but not really cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air coming out of your system is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is oftentimes a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged properly.
An easy way to see if you are low on refrigerant is to go out to your air conditioning system and find the two copper pipes. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or producing condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are probably good to go and do not need extra refrigerant.
If you’re not certain or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll come out and examine your refrigerant levels and discover why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should manage refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the hazards of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.
You air condenser fan isn’t rotating.
There are multiple reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One might be that it merely burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another problem to look out for is that the water is not draining correctly or that the drain is obstructed. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to locate the trouble; but, if not, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can look into what is preventing your condenser fan from rotating and review your options to get your AC problem resolved.
Your air conditioning system is not providing adequate air cooling.
First thing’s first: try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes our busy lives cause us to ignore the obvious. If that doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause serious cooling troubles. Another problem that could cause your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are built. Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and perform an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your air conditioner is causing your problems.
Air Conditioner shuts on and off constantly
If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of multiple things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the condenser and/or evaporator is cleaned and all clogs moved out of the way, you may be back to a typical running AC. Keep in mind that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes the house to heat up quickly, this could cause an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work vigorously to keep your family cool and comfortable.
No matter your trouble, whatever typical or atypical AC trouble you run into, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you around the clock. We are available to you so we can get your A/C cooling and get your comfortable quickly.
