Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are some things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you don’t, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 330-236-4793 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
